Visitors Visas

The Australian Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) is designed for people who wish to travel to Australia for a temporary period for tourism, to visit family, or for short-term business purposes. It is a temporary visa that allows the holder to stay for up to 3, 6, or 12 months, depending on the circumstances of the application.

This visa is categorized into the following streams:

  1. Tourist Stream
  2. Sponsored Family Stream
  3. Business Visitor Stream
  4. Frequent Traveler Stream
  5. Approved Destination Status Stream

Tourist Stream: 

For individuals visiting Australia for a holiday, recreation, or to see family and friends. This is the most commonly used stream.

Sponsored Family Stream: 

For people visiting family in Australia who are Australian citizens or permanent residents. This stream requires a formal sponsorship from an eligible relative.

Business Visitor Stream: 

Intended for people travelling to Australia to engage in short-term business activities such as attending conferences, trade fairs, negotiations, or general business enquiries. It does not permit working for or providing services to an Australian business.

Frequent Traveler Stream:

This stream is designed for citizens of specific countries who travel to Australia often for short-term business or leisure.

Approved Destination Status (ADS) Stream:

  • This stream is specifically for citizens of certain countries (like China) who are travelling as part of an organised tour group.
  • The visa generally prohibits working in Australia and requires all applicants to meet health and character  requirements

Key Eligibility requirements

  • You must satisfy specific criteria relating to the visa stream you are applying for.
  • You must meet the genuine temporary stay requirement.
  • You must be able to demonstrate that you have access to sufficient funds to cover the cost of your stay in Australia.
  • You must satisfy certain Public Interest criteria and Special Return criteria.
  • You must meet health and character requirements.
