Parent Visas
Parent/Grandparent Visitor Visa
Grandparents or Parents of resident visa holders are able to apply for a multiple entry visa which allows them to stay for up to 18 months within a 3 year period, each stay being no longer than 6 months at a time and, additionally, up to a maximum of 9 months in an 18-month period.
The Parent Boost Visitor Visa
The Parent Boost Visitor Visa allows eligible parents of New Zealand citizens and residents to stay for up to 5 years, with renewal options.
To apply, you must:
- be outside New Zealand when applying and when the visa is granted
- meet character and health standards
- be sponsored by an adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident
- demonstrate you have sufficient funds or income to support your stay or that your sponsor or sponsors meet income requirements
- show that you are a genuine visitor who will retain links with your home country
The Parent Retirement Resident Visa
The Parent Retirement visa is a Permanent visa which allows you to live, work and study in New Zealand.
To apply for this visa you must:
- have an adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident living in New Zealand
- have no dependent children
- have at least NZD $1 million to invest in New Zealand for 4 years, and at least NZD $500,000 for settlement
- have earned or acquired your funds lawfully
- transfer your investment funds to New Zealand
- have an annual income of at least NZD $60,000
Once your residence application is approved in principle, you will have 12 months to transfer your investment funds to New Zealand and this will need to be maintained for 4 years.
The Parent Resident Visa
To be considered under this category, the parent/s must:
• be of good health and character
• have no dependent children (children under the age of 24 that are financially dependent on them)
• have a reasonable standard of English (provide evidence of your schooling or employment in English)
• have an adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident and is eligible to sponsor you, and
• have a sponsor (or sponsors) that meets income requirements
For the child/ren to be an eligible sponsor, they and potentially their partner must:
• Meet the annual income requirement over a 3-year period (see attached for more information)
• have been a New Zealand resident or citizen for at least three years before you apply for residence.
• be ordinarily a resident in New Zealand and have spent at least 184 days in New Zealand in each of the three years immediately before you apply for residency, and
• for the first ten years of the parent’s residence in New Zealand, undertake to ensure their maintenance in New Zealand and that they have suitable accommodation, and to pay for any costs of their deportation or repatriation, should it be necessary.
